We started our colour centres today. Each centre highlighted a different colour and helped us practice a different skill:
Yellow Centre: The kids raced, using scoop scissors to pick up pompoms and place the correct amount in each circle
Orange Centre: The kids used tweezers to pick up letters that were hidden in orange rice. They spelled their names and the raced to find hidden letters
Blue Centre: POKEY PINS!!These are my FAVOURITE way to work on fine-motor skills. The kids use a pushpin to poke holes in a shape (we did a blue jay). When they peel off the top paper and hold their image up to the light, they can see the picture that they created with their holes. It is an especially effective way of strengthening the same muscles that they use to hold a pencil
Red Centre: We used the light table and fun pieces to build ladybugs (like a puzzle)
Green Centre: The kids used playdough to sculpt. They were encouraged to sculpt green food, like apples, pears, and grapes.
We also did a science experiment using whole milk, dish soap and food colouring to mix primary colours into secondary colours. The colours DANCED in the plate when we added soap and then blended beautifully.
